If you've already been to a high school prom or any formal dance for that matter, there may have been a few things that you wish you had on that night. And if this is your first event, let us tell you from our own prom experiences - even if you think that you might not need it now, it is very likely that you will during prom. These are the things you definitely didn't think about before prom: 1. You have to dance at your senior prom. It's an absolute must. But when you are done getting down and boogying, don't be surprised to find parts of your hair all over the place. This is where the trusty hair mister comes in. This will help all the stray-away strands go back flat, where they belong. 2. Your eyes have to be unforgettable at prom. One common misconception is that to keep your lashes looking fabulous you should keep applying mascara throughout the night. This turns out to be a big no-no and a cause for the clumps. Instead, bring along a small eyeliner pencil. This will do just the trick and make your eyes pop. Another trick is using waterproof mascara. This will be the best decision you ever made, especially if you plan on having a few of those so-long-senior tears at the end of the night. 3. This isn't Hollywood. You don't want things falling out of place on your prom night. Invest in some clothing tape or double-sided tape to make sure that everything stays put during prom. 4. Remember that bare legs are always sexier, but if you choose to go with panty hose, just be careful not to snag them or put a run in them. If the unfortunate incident does occur, bring some clear nail polish along and apply it at both ends of the run to prevent it from spreading. 5. Stick a few extra bobby pins in your purse. You never know when you or a girlfriend might really need one. 6. Also, toss in a couple of safety pins in case something on your dress comes undone or your date's boutonniere falls off. 7. Sometimes dancing can make you sweat and sweat equals funky body odor. Carry a mini deodorant stick to bring your nose some ease after all the dance-floor fun. 8. Your teeth aren't the only things that should look pearly on prom night. Bring an extra lip gloss to keep your lips shimmery too. 9. Beauty and style has its price. That's why those adorable shoes you picked out to match your prom dress actually hate you and start to kill your feet. So bring some band-aides along to ease some of the pain until the end of the night. 10. Are you wearing your hair down or up? If up, then great. But if down, then be sure to bring a mini-hairbrush or comb to keep the tangles away. 11. The reality is that some people are always chewing gum. They should just face it. They are addicted to the chewing. If you must chew gum on prom night, try something that will keep your teeth white and remove any punch stains that might stand out in your prom picture. 12. Keep some Q-tips handy. These will help you tidy yourself up if say tears or sweat has gotten to your eye makeup. 13. Say goodbye to that shiny nose for your prom pictures. Get some powder-lined sheets to wipe all of the oil away just in time for the cameras. 14. We must warn you about fake eyelashes - they will surely fall off if you start crying. To prevent any major eyelash embarrassments, bring the extra eyelash glue along. 15. Every girl is going to want to touch up her makeup during prom night. Find yourself a mini-makeup kit that has everything you will need: eyeshadow, blush and lip color. 16. Don't be one of those girls that expects guys to pay for everything. Your date already paid for dinner and bought the prom tickets. The least you could do is treat him to a late night snack or dessert. Just make sure you have a little bit of extra cash. 17. The last and probably the most important item you could forget to bring to prom is a camera! You have to cherish all those prom-night moments and a few clicks will do just the trick. |

| It can be very easy to over-do-it when applying our everyday make-up, and it's obvious too. Don't let prom night be another one of those heavy-duty make-up evenings. This night has to be perfect and we have some easy tips to help your make-up look fantastic for prom night. First, let's give a run-down on the important things to consider when applying make-up: foundation, eyes, lips and blush. When you apply foundation, make sure that your face is clean and you remove old make-up or dirt. Once your face is clean, select a foundation that perfectly matches your skin tone. It is always obvious when a girl is wearing a concealer or foundation that is way too dark or light. It is also important to cover up any blemishes or discolored areas from sun damage. WATCH OUT for foundation lines around the neck, so double-check to make sure that everything is blended in. Next, choose between the lips and the eyes. If you highlight both with lots of make-up, you will just look like you are over-doing it. Big mistake. If you choose the eyes, pick eyeliner that compliments the dress and contrasts with the eye shadow. You do not want them to totally match the dress. Smoky eyes are another great look for prom. Here are some steps to getting those smoky eyes: Before you apply anything, make sure that your eyelids are oil-free. Start with a primer. Next, apply the eyeliner. Apply black, brown or gray liner above the upper lash line. Draw the line thicker in the middle of the eye. If you feel like spicing things up, go for a purple, blue or deep-green liner. If you want to apply eyeliner under the bottom lash line, you need lighter color eyeliner. Smudge the bottom liner for the real smoky effect. Now it is time to apply the base color, which should also be lighter. Cream or pearl shades create shimmery shadows over the eyelids. Check out different bases at Sephora. Now to make the eyelids smoky you need a darker eye shadow and an eye shadow brush. Start blending the color at your lash line. Make sure the liner disappears. If you need some help blending, use a Q-tip. Add the finishing touches with some mascara. The next step is applying blush. Think about your fashion style and your skin color. The more natural, the better. For your lips, decided between lip-gloss and lipstick. Some girls just want their lips to shine, but if you choose lipstick, you want your lips to be bright. Red and dark pinks are always hot for prom. Don't pick a color your grandmother would wear. And remember if you choose to do bright lip stick to keep your eyes simple. |
