Tanning For Prom Night

Dark, glowing skin might look great on some people. Others should just stick with their naturally pale skin. If you are somewhere in the middle and are dying to have a tan for prom night, there are things to think about and alternative ways of going about it rather than just hitting up the tanning salon.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 1-in-5 Americans will get skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. Ultraviolet light in tanning beds is the same radiation that is in sunshine- the same rays that cause skin cancer.
With statistics like these, teens should be careful and go with a safer tanning solution for prom. There are hundreds of self-tanners out there you can buy at any grocery store or the beauty salon. There are even airbrush salons that will paint the self-tanner on you.
So, if you are in favor of your skin and decide to go with the self-tanner, here are a few tips to give you a flawless tan that will make you look like you are fresh from the beach on prom night. First, remember to take your time. If you apply in a hurry, you will just look like a mess with streaks and spots. Before you begin application, exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin cells. This will help the tanner to spread more smoothly and last longer. It is important to also shave to make the skin even smoother. If you shave after application, the color will shave off right along with your hair. If you need to moisturize before application, do not use too much. Lotions prevent self-tanner from soaking in the skin. When you are ready to apply the self-tanner, wear gloves because there is nothing worse than orange palms on prom night. Next, even out the tanner in your palms then apply it to the skin in a circular motion to prevent streaks. Make sure you spread it around. Start with your feet and legs and work your way up. Tan yourself the way the sun would. This means to only apply the tanner in areas that the sun would actually hit. On your face, for example, the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead would get the most sun. Start in these areas then work your way out.
Once you have finished applying, wait six to eight hours before putting on lotion, showering or wearing tight clothes. Continue to put lotion on your skin after the eight hours because self-tanner really sucks the natural moisture out. Plus, it will keep your new brown skin glowing throughout the entire prom evening.

If there's a local tanning salon in your neighborhood try getting a "mystic tan" there relatively cheap and all you do is stand there while a machine sprays your whole body down. It's not uncomfortable and takes about 2 minutes. You get the perfect glow, and it lasts for up to five days. Just make sure to wear no makeup and exfoliate your skin before getting it done to avoid any orange tint.
