Hair Aware: Find Your Complimentary Color

Whether au natural or straight from a bottle, your hair color can make or break an evening gown ensemble. Whatever shade your tresses, there are certain colors dresses that will compliment your lovely locks.

For gold-blonde ladies with blue eyes and tanned skin, stick with warm colors like gold, yellow and even orange. Champagne blondes look great in light pink and blue hues. If your hair is super light blonde, steer clear of gowns that match your hair color, like shimmery light golds. Try a deep green for an elegant fairy look. Purple works well with any shade of blonde.

For deep brunettes, nearly anything goes but brown and navy. If you want blue, think true blue or lean towards greener hues like turquoise. Deep pink, purplish, or ruby reds give a dark-haired do a definite diva appearance.

Redheads have choices, too. Any shade of green--from emerald to jade-- looks fabulous with any shade of red hair--from strawberry to wine. Redheads, consider yourselves lucky. Not many can pull of neutral beiges and taupes. But you, darling, can.

Black hair looks great with bright shades and extremely dark colors. Avoid white. No one wants to look like Frankenstein's wife on prom night or at that big dinner party. Eek!

If you are not sure whether a color compliments your hair, skin or eyes, ask a friend you trust to be honest. Flip through fashion magazines and go with your gut. If an actress with your hair color and tone looks like a strand of Christmas lights or a washed out ghost, do not imitate. I repeat: wear what plays up your natural shades. So take these tips and get color savvy!
