The Dress Debate: When Parents Don't Approve

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

You love your dress, but mom says no way. Whether it's cost or cleavage keeping your parents from letting you get the gown you want, Tiza knows how to handle sticky situations with perfect poise and the politest of manners. Basically, we want you to get what you want. Here's how...

First, if your parents are buying the dress, it's best to respect their wishes by listening to their suggestions and wishes when shopping. Cut the attitude. They are your parents, after all.

f you disagree on a dress, ask them why they don't like your choice. Listen intently. Consider their concerns. They may see something that you don't. Then politely ask in your sweet voice if you may share your opinion. This might be enough to settle the score.

If you still disagree after sharing sides, you still have options. Ask your parents how much they planned on spending in the first place. Now work with what you've got.

Strike a deal. Offer to pay for half of the dress with allowance, chores around the house or a part-time job. No go? Offer to pay for the whole dress. Hey doll, how bad do you want it?

Offer to do your own hair and nails and wear borrowed jewelry to cut back on spending.

If you think your parents are being completely unreasonable, maybe consider setting up a chat with a good friend's parent. This might shed some spotlight on the subject.

Parents can be tough, but with the right attitude, you can work the wrinkles out of any parental problem.
