Prom Story

Susana, a foreign exchange student from Spain, shares her first prom story from the States.

I did not know what prom was really when I arrived here. I made friends with a girl in a class and she asked me to go to prom with her friend, a boy. I did not know him. I never saw him until the night of prom. He came to my host parent's house and my host dad opened the door. I walked to him and put my cheek up to his like a greeting from home, which is a large town in Spain. He stepped away from me and his eyes were very big. I scared him! Then, my host parents laughed. They told me he did not know that in Spain, people greet by kissing cheeks. I think he was embarrassed. But I enjoyed the prom experience.
