Katy Perry, she of rather silly but insanely catchy hits such as Teenage Dream and California Gurls, recently incited a little bit of controversy when she appeared on the kid's show Sesame Street sporting a top that some found just a touch too... revealing. (We'll let you judge for yourself via the below image, which depicts her appearance on the show.)
On Saturday night, the singer/actress fired back with a sketch on Saturday Night Live wherein she flashed a significant amount of Sesame Street-inspired cleavage. Perry shared the stage with SNL icons Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph for a reprise of their classic "Bronx Beat." Check out the whole sketch below.
Pop star Rihanna wore a characteristically nuts outfit while shooting the video for "What's My Name" last week. The video, which is being directed by Phil Andelman, so far appears to be loud, bold, and way too cool for school. "What's My Name" is likely to be the second single on Rihanna's upcoming album, Loud. Check out a preview of the video below:
This week, Hollywood's hottest -- and most animal-friendly -- stars turned out in big numbers to support the 30th anniversary of PETA. There was not a stitch of leather to be found in the crowd, but the fashion didn't suffer for it.
Here are a few of our favorite looks from the evening.
Isabel Lucas
Such a dreamy, beautiful dress. And she wears flats!
Jena Malone
I love the shape -- not to mention the slightly sheer overlayer.
This week, The Social Network -- aka "The Facebook movie" -- will hit theaters everywhere. This movie is getting a lot of hype, for good reason. Not only is Facebook the most addictive, controversy-inspiring, and generally ... major internet phenomenon since google, but Mark Zuckerberg -- and, in fact, the whole Facebook team -- are equal parts mysterious, elusive, and possibly insidious. All of these factors make for a compelling movie. But when you also consider the stars (Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake), the director (David Fincher) and the writer (Aaron Sorkin), it becomes clear that this movie is going to be impossible not to watch.
Now, there's a new preview clip out that basically confirms all of the above speculations.
Emma Stone, the flame-tressed comedian who's starring in the current blockbuster Easy A, which we still haven't gotten around to seeing but plan to, may be up to star in the upcoming Spiderman flick as one of two female leads. "Reports" say that the role is not for that of Mary-Jane Watson -- which is crazy, because... Emma Stone would make the perfect Mary-Jane Watson?
What do you think? Would you watch Emma Stone in Superman?
Check out the trailer for Easy A, which is out now.
We mentioned recently that Lady Gaga staged a sort of protest against the military's anti-gay policy at last Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, when she brought a group of gay and lesbian armed service members -- no longer serving, since having been forced out as a result of their sexuality -- as her guests to the award ceremony. Gaga has been particularly particularly vocal about the issue in recent weeks (probably since Congressional debate on the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell has become intensified), and on September 16, she put out a video calling for its repeal, and urging her fans to call their Senators.
Poor Lindsay! Not even out of rehab for a month and the girl's already been busted -- twice -- for failing her court-mandated drug test. According to the terms of her parole, that means that the 24-year-old actress might have to go back to jail for another thirty-day sentence. (Which would probably end up being more like 2 weeks, like her last trip there was.) Incidentally, Lohan, who opened up in this month's Vanity Fair about how badly she wants to get her career back on track, was allegedly in talks to host an episode of SNL this season. That seems a lot less likely now. However, the actress appears to be making an effort, at least: She's been spotted going to AA meetings two days in a row.
What do you think? Would you still watch Lindsay Lohan in a movie or on TV? Or has her appeal disintegrated along with her image?
If you're a loyal follower of SNL, perhaps you are aware of Jenny Slate, the 28-year-old comedienne who made her debut on the late-night sketch show last fall. Slate's tenure on SNL was brief -- she didn't get asked back this season -- but the actress is carving out a new name for herself with a series of viral videos she's released in the past few weeks.
The first, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, points to a quirkier brand of comedy that never quite made its way onto SNL -- and it's too bad. This sketch is really, really funny. The second, Bestie x Bestie 1 is actually a little more along the lines of a sketch that might have made it onto the show -- and it's also pretty great.
Ever dream of returning to your old high school to a crowd of adoring fans? Katy Perry must have; the 25-year-old singer went back to hometown of Santa Barbara this week to perform a concert in front of 1,000 screaming audience members -- at her old high school.
"This is one of my favorite shows! Definitely top 10, maybe top five," the VMA-nominated singer enthused after the performance. "I was giving it my all...I was so happy to be here in Santa Barbara because Santa Barbara is really my heart."
Perry also said recently that she wrote her latest hit, Teenage Dream, while growing up in the picturesque California city. What's your take on the song -- do you love the catchiness or hate the lyrics? (Or both?!)
At the MTV VMAs on Sunday, the night went by with relatively little drama. Swiftgate 2 did not occur -- though the young country star did sing a song in homage to last year's drama -- Rihanna and Eminem sang an "F-You, Chris Brown"-themed duet, and even Cher managed to keep it together. On the red carpet, however, it was a mix of the tame, the sparkly, and the leathery. Check out a few of the most... interesting looks here:
Emma Stone
Demure leather? Apparently it can be done! I can't say I love it, but I do love Emma Stone, so... there you have it.
Katy Perry
Oh hi, homage-to-figure-skating-days outfit! I wear you too, sometimes. (But usually not when cameras are around.)
Audrina Patridge
Jeez, tan much?! That's all I have to say about that.
Perhaps you've been reading -- or seeing -- a lot about Emma Stone lately. The young flame-tressed actress has been all over the place promoting her upcoming film 'Easy A,' a Hollywoodized-remake of the classic Nathaniel Hawthorne novel "The Scarlett Letter." Recently, Stone went on the tonight show to chat with Jay Leno about her past flirtations with reality television, and (what else) tonight's upcoming VMAs. Check out the clip, and be won over:
Sofia Coppola, the renowned filmmaker of movies including the Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette, just became the first American woman ever to win Venice Film Festival's "Golden Lion" -- the top prize at the festival.
Coppola won for her upcoming movie Somewhere, which stars Stephen Dorff and the young Elle Fanning in the tale of a struggling actor looking for meaning in his seemingly empty life. After Coppola's most recent film, Marie Antoinette, which got at best mixed reviews, fans of the director have been eager for the director to redeem her. And apparently, she's done just that. Check out the trailer, below. What do you think?
As of Friday, fashionistas all over Manhattan have been prancing all over town in their four-inch stilettos, checking out the upcoming season's trends at their favorite runway shows. You can check all of the latest updates at thesewebsites, but we'll also show you some of our favorite designs right here at Tiza. In the meantime, here are a few of our favorite looks so far:
Z Spoke by Zac Posen
Zac Posen's new diffusion line has some pretty back-to-school friendly looks. And they're so much more affordable than his signature line!
Band of Outsiders
All together, this look might be a little bold for the average school day (although, nothing wrong with being bold!) -- but that plaid jacket is perfect for fall.
Charlotte Ronson
If you can get past the 90s-grunge styling, this floral dress is pretty cute!
Stay tuned for more on NYC fashion week.... And let us know what you're digging.
Oh, things get so dramatic around the VMAs! It looks like Taylor Swift will be performing tonight; what was supposed to be a "top secret performance" was (obv) leaked to the press so that all of Taylor Swift's billions of fans would be sure to watch tonight's VMAs. (Won't they be watching anyway?) But there's also a rumor going around that Kanye wrote Swift a song -- but that she wants nothing to do with it. (My question is, if Kanye wrote Swifty a song, shouldn't he sing it himself?) And now it turns out that the song she's singing tonight is about the whole VMA fiasco from last year. This is getting to be too much for me. Anyway, we're going to leave you with the video of "Mine" to get you through the long hours until the VMAs.
Tonight marks the one-year anniversary of Kanye West's most humiliating moment ever -- at the last year's MTV VMAs. MTV's annual awards ceremony will air tonight -- and, presumably, nonstop for two weeks straight via network reruns -- and it will indubitably be dominated by Taylor Swift. (Although what Kanye -- not to mention Bieber -- will do is totally up in the air.) We'll be back with commentary on the fashion tomorrow, but in the meantime check out an underdog video that's nominated tonight: Florence + The Machine's Dog Days are Over:
School's starting back up -- which means, as you know, a ton of pesky "summer reading" assignments. But in case you didn't quite get around to finishing all the classics you were supposed to have tackled for your English class, someone on the internet has the compiled a really handy little video for you! It's 50 classic novels -- recapped! Watch at your own risk, obviously.
This weekend, Justin Bieber crossed off yet another achievement on the pop star "must do" list: The Epic Dance-Off. Unfortunately, young Bieber is not yet old enough to go clubbing, so the dance-off took place at a bowling alley -- but, you know, a jazzy one! -- but since his dance-off adversary, Will Smith's son Jaden, is equally underaged, it was the perfect locale. Though the contest was alleged to be a close one, word on the street is that Bieber pulled out all of the stops -- aka the moonwalk -- and claimed victory.
Do you guys watch Project Runway? I haven't paid attention to the popular design show in a few seasons, but this week an episode caught my eye: The contestants were taking less-than-desirable bridesmaids dresses and transforming them into "something wearable." We at Tiza Prom Dresses know our way around a bridesmaid-style dress, and obviously we were fascinated.
Here are some of the designers' creations:
Yikes! I can't say these are garments I'm likely to start wearing around town. How about this? Next time, just get your bridesmaid dresses at Tiza and you'll save yourself all this trouble!
Are you excited about Glee's second season? Oh, me too! Lucky for us, the show has finally released a preview of the upcoming events. Check out the clip below and let us know what you think.
This Sunday, television's finest talents gathered in Hollywood to celebrate the 62nd annual Emmy Awards. For once, the ceremony actually yielded some surprises! But the fashion, with a few exceptions, was largely tasteful and without major shockers. Here's a roundup of some of our favorite dresses of the evening:
Elisabeth Moss
There is nothing I don't love about Peggy Olson! Including this dress.
Rose Byrne
Sure, Rose Byrne has a thing for the Grecian Goddess look. But she does it so well!
Amy Poehler
You know this lady just had a baby like, two weeks ago, right? She is incredible.
Claire Danes
So many sparkles! In the best way!
Keri Russell
Where has this lady been for the past few years? Come back!
Kiernan Shipka
The most poised 10-year-old on the planet.
And finally: January Jones
This crazy dress almost takes on a life of its own -- but not so much that it takes her over. Which, in my book, equals success! What do you think?
