Newly-crowned Miss World -- aka the 18-year-old Alexandria Mills -- is already traveling the globe to fulfill her duties as the queen: The Louisville, Kentucky native recently made a trip to Manila, Philippines, to visit young cancer patients at the city's Ospital ng Makati.
Mills made the trip with Botswana's Emma Wareus, who was first runner up to Mills in the recent Miss World competition, and the two visited with two young boys who have Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). We hope they were able to provide some cheer and company to the young patients.
Are you excited about the Superbowl? Well... what about the television show Glee?
Glee is putting on what looks like an epic Superbowl show -- starring crazy singing and dancing numbers, jocks dancing to Michael Jackson's "Thriller," and Katie Couric -- among other "surprising" guest stars.
Based on the preview, it looks like it'll be something of an extravaganza.
Prepare yourself: Britney Spears is prepping her upcoming album for a March 15, 2011 release date.
Among the contributors to the album (think producers, songwriters, and collaborators), which doesn't yet have a title, are Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Rodney Jerkins, Avant, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith, and Bloodshy.
It's been awhile since Britney put out an album, but she's been pretty quiet the last couple years. Maybe she's been working on some new material? What do you think -- will Spears' seventh studio album be a success? Or will you skip it?
This week, MTV debuted the first episode of its new scripted drama, "Skins," the American adaptation of a UK hit about the gritty reality of how modern teenagers really live. (Theoretically, anyway.)
The show was a huge hit in London -- but it's also incredibly racy, and it looks like MTV has already had trouble balancing the line between catering to U.S.-based advertisers (aka, not getting so scandalous that companies wouldn't want to be associated it) and, um, actual teenagers -- not to mention UK "Skins" loyalists -- who don't want to see a watered-down version of the real thing.
Did you guys watch the first episode? What do you think?
It's been awhile since we've heard too much from Avril Lavigne: The young singer dropped off the grid for awhile after releasing her most recent album in 2007. And it's no surprise: in 2006, she got married at just 22; last year, she and then-husband Deryck Whibley (of the band Sum 41) filed for divorce. Presumably, she had a pretty busy couple of years.
But she also has plenty to write about -- and in March, Lavigne is out with a new album, "Goodbye Lullaby."
Lavigne released Lullaby's first single, "What the Hell" earlier this month. She recently described the song as "more pop
rock and it's a lighter subject and it's a fun kinda summer party song."
"It's kinda like my older stuff so I haven't had any
music out in like four years I think we thought it was a good way to bridge into
the new stuff," Lavigne said.
Now, she's released a video for the song. Check it out below and let us know what you think! Are you excited that Avril's back in the game?
You may know her as the statuesque blonde who turns the tile's in the forever-running game show, "Wheel of Fortune." But there's something else to love about Vanna White: She's a fan of Sherri Hill! Check her out modeling a gorgeous Sherri Hill gown (at left) during an episode of the show this week!
As we mentioned last weekend, Sherri Hill featured prominently at this year's Miss America pageant -- but we want to thank and congratulate all the girls who wore our designs!
In addition to the newly-crowned queen Teresa Scanlon and Kayla Martell, of Delaware (both of whom we already wrote abouthere), three other of the top twelve Miss America contestants were wearing Sherri Hill on the big night.
Just want to give a big thanks and shout-out to all of the beautiful young women who wore Sherri Hill during their big moments. So here's to Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlon, of Nebraska; Emoly West, of Oklahoma; Djuan Trent, of Kentucky; Kayla Martell, of Delaware, Alyse Eady, of Arkansas.
Did you guys tune in for Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony? We won't spoil the winners and losers for you in case you DVR'd it, but there were some memorable moments. (Ahem, Ricky Gervais.)
Besides, as everybody knows (excepting maybe the Hollywood Foreign Press), the celebrity fashion is by far the most important part of the night.
And there were some truly spectacular looks. We've rounded up our favorite gowns for the night.
At last night's Miss America pageant, Delaware's Kayla Martell became only the third-ever Miss Delaware to make it to the top ten finalists -- and her story is truly inspiring. Martell, a 22-year-old native of Milford, Delaware, has alopecia areata -- an autoimmune disease that caused her to lose her hair at just ten years old. But she didn't let it stop her from pursuing her dreams -- and last night, Martell was an inspiring example to us all.
"You can't be defined and shouldn't be defined by your hair," Martell told the Delaware Online in a recent interview.
Martell, who has competed in the Miss Delaware pageant five times (three times without wigs; two times with them) is a remarkable example of why it's worth it to fight for your dreams.
Did we mention she wore a Sherri Hill evening gown? (We'll update the post with photos as soon as we get some prints in.)
Congratulations to Teresa Scanlan, the 17-year-old from Nebraska who last night was crowned Miss America!
And she was crowned in this gorgeous Sherri Hill dress! (Check it out on the left.)
The Nebraskan was the youngest woman to win the Miss America contest since it made its debut ninety years ago -- but Scanlan already has big plans for the future. In an interview with the Associated Press, she said she plans to eventually go to law school and become a politician so that she could "stand up for what's right, stand up for integrity and honesty."
"At
this point, attorneys and politicians are looked down on and have
terrible reputations for being greedy and power hungry," Scanlan said. "I really
think it's important for people who have their heart and mind in the
right place get into those powerful positions."
Congrats again to the beautiful winner! And check out another picture of her stunning in Sherri Hill after the jump.
Just a last-minute good luck to all of the lovely ladies competing in the Miss America pageant this evening in Las Vegas. Don't forget to tune in -- and keep your eyes peeled for some lovely Sherri Hill designs! ;)
The festivities start at 9PM EST on ABC. Are you as excited as we are? Who are you rooting for?
On Monday, Oklahoma Republican Mary Fallin became the first woman ever to be inaugurated as the governor of Oklahoma. Pretty exciting news! Fallin -- who acknowledged the historic nature of her election during her swearing-in on Monday -- vowed to focus on improving Oklahoma's economy.
Another exciting tidbit about the governor? She's also a Sherri Hill fan: During the inauguration ceremony, this trailblazing politician dazzled in a custom Sherri Hill gown. (See the awesome results at left.)
Miss New York -- aka the 24-year-old Claire Buffie -- is bringing a new cause to the Miss America pageant this year: gay rights.
The Indiana native is promoting a "Straight for Equality: Let's Talk" platform in the upcoming pageant -- and she thinks it's time the other contestants got with the program, too.
"Miss America is looking for a woman who is intelligent, has a vision
and is compassionate about making change," Buffie said in a recent interview with the New York Daily News. "The reason I am such a vocal straight ally is because my older sister,
Sarah, is gay, and I have a lot of gay friends and a gay roommate." Buffie added that they were "people that I care about so much and that I never want to see treated as second-class citizens."
It's a bold move, even as the fight for gay rights has long since taken a place on the national stage. Congratulations on Miss Buffie for standing up for what she believes in -- and good luck on pageant night!
We're major fans of the rising country starlet Katie Armiger here at Tiza.
So how thrilled were we when Katie, the 19-year-old country singer from Sugar Land, Texas, chose to wear a Sherri Hill frock on the cover of her upcoming album, "Confessions of a Nice Girl"?!
(Answer: Very.)
Don't forget to pick up a copy of Armiger's album ASAP! It's in stores now. And if you want to check out the dress, too, you can find it right here. Congrats to Katie for all of her recent success!
Katrina Hodge, the 24-year-old former Miss England, has just
passed on her crown -- and now, she's prepping to take on a much
tougher battle than the beauty queen circuit: War in Afghanistan. Hodge,
who won Miss England last January, is not a stranger to the perils of
battle: She enlisted in the UK Army at the age of 17, and has already
served in Iraq. But in a recent interview, the young woman admitted that
reacclamating to such a difficult lifestyle was not going to be
easy. "It's hard to be excited about going to Afghanistan but it's the
reality
of our job. Our job is be out there, protecting our country," Hodge
said.
"It's
definitely a change of lifestyle from having your hair and make-up done every
day to being in your combats and having your hair scraped back. I was thrown in
at the deep end and realised that this was reality," Hodge continued. "I
went on exercise and it was hard because I was living in woods, having spent
the last year living in amazing hotels around the world. To go straight back to
this, it was definitely a culture shock."
Still, the young soldier says she loves what she does -- even if it is one of the world's toughest jobs to take on.
"There are days when I miss getting dressed up and going to an event but the Army is my life and the Army has made me who I am."
Such strong, powerful words from an obviously inspiring young woman.
Awards season has officially begun - and so commences the
round of pre-Oscar, pre-Golden Globe ceremonies, while maybe bear slightly less
influence in the film world, still provide some valuable insight into what one
may expect from similar ceremonies in the coming months - both in terms of
award-winners and red-carpet trends. This week, the stars came out for the
People's Choice Awards.
Here are some of our favorite looks from the
red-carpet. And one or two stars we think could have benefited from a quick
trip to Tiza.com!
Taylor Swift, at left, looked fairy-princess-esque in a pink, frothy J. Mendel frock. Not her most sophisticated look, maybe, but if anyone can rock the fairytale-glam look, it's Swift!
Check out more looks from the event after the jump.
Finally! Lady Gaga has announced the release of a long-awaited new album -- "Born This Way" -- for May 23, 2011. The pop star's breakthrough record, "The Fame," came out in 2008, and "The Fame Monster" (2009) was initially supposed to be a re-release of her debut. And while "The Fame Monster" was ultimately released as a standalone album, "Born This Way" will be the first totally independent body of Gaga work since, basically, her very first album. She'll release her first single (also the title track) on February 13, 2010.
Kim Kardashian, mostly known for her role on E!s "Keeping up with the Kardashians" (which, admittedly, transformed her into a regular on the tabloid circuit) is apparently trying to diversify her act -- into pop music.
This week, the 30-year-old reality star debuted a new single -- cowritten with The-Dream, who you may know as the production duo behind favorites including Rihanna's "Umbrella," among others -- at Tao nightclub in Vegas.
"I didn't mean to, but I did this song with The-Dream, and it's really fun! I hope you guys like it!" Kim said, while introducing the song at Tao during a New Year's Eve performance.
Later, she followed up the release with a telling tweet: "2011 is all about trying new things and going for it! I'm starting mine w something fun and crazy! Sneak peaks coming soon!"
Do you think Kim Kardashian can make it as a pop star? Check out the video of her new song below -- and let us know what you think of it!
Last night, celebrities all over the country put on their best - or in some cases, most experimental - ensembles to ring in the new year.
Whether we're talking ten-year-old pop phenomenon Willow Smith, whose outfit involved an oversized ghetto-blaster and her signature whip-worthy hair, or the ever over-the-top Rihanna, whose recently flame-tinged tresses add a little extra something to any outfit, the stars certainly didn't disappoint in this new year's eve quest to prove 2011 would bring bigger, better, and more outrageous material -- at least sartorially speaking.
Check out some of our favorite getups -- plus some that left something to be desired -- after the jump.
Are you a fan of ABC family's hit show "Pretty Little Liars"? Or maybe you were a loyal fan of the CW favorite "Privileged"? Then you probably recognize Lucy Hale, the young star of these prime-time favorites, stunning in Sherri Hill in this month's issue of Teen Prom magazine. The 21-year-old actress, who won a Teen Choice Award for her work in Pretty Little Liars, is rocking out Sherri Hill's Strapless Jeweled Nude Tulle Skirt Dress -- which you can buy for yourself right here. Congrats to Lucy for her recent success!
