Totally Tickled About Feathers

|

Some think of feathers and immediately imagine a gaudy, hot pink boa.

Unless you're heading to an 80's bash, let's smooth out the ruffled rules when it comes to wearing feathers.

First, feathers are extremely versatile. You can wear them in your hair on a clip, adorned on a clutch, or as trim on a dress. Feathers add texture to your dress that makes your gown come alive as you move. With every gust and step you take, feathers will flow with your movement, adding a hinted halo to your presence. Absolutely angelic.

Feathers come in all shapes and sizes, from extravagant peacock to thin, plush ribbons that barely brush your skin. There's no doubt about it. This season, feathers are in.

One large, intricate feather strategically positioned on one strap will add height to your stature, drawing the eye upwards, especially if the dress sweeps the floor. A larger feather at the waist lures the eye toward your trim tummy, which is perfect for gals with a slim figure. Feathers at the bust line can create the illusion of a fuller bust--great for petite ladies.

A dress embellished with elaborate feathers generally doesn't require jewelry. A feather-embroidered gown stands on its own as a work of art.

For summer, feathers fit the hottest flock of gowns to hit the runways. Don't be a chicken. Spread those wings. Add a feather or two to your gown and stay fashion savvy!

Solids or Prints? How to Choose

|

So many solids and plenty of prints! How's a girl to choose from a gazillion brilliantly beautiful gowns? Tiza's here with helpful hints on how to choose between a solid or a print.

Your body type plays a lead role in your choice. For fuller figured ladies, a small print, like tiny polka dots, or a solid with a print on your bust or in one area works best. Slimmer girls can get away with big prints that create the illusion of a little more curve.

Consider the event. Is a psychedelic, tie-dye patterned dress too flamboyant for a classy occasion? On the flip side, a summer night outdoor dance party may be perfect for an extravagant fabric full of zigzags and colorful bursts.

Consider the cut. A super short, low cut dress in a funky neon pattern may not be the best combo for a wedding. Don't want to look trashy or steal the limelight from the bride. But give it a go for a school dance! Instead, a short solid dress is a super sophisticated choice to wear while you watch your friends cut their cake.

Accessorize wisely. If your dress dances on its own, go minimal on bright, chunky jewelry. Instead, stick with simple studs or one rhinestone piece. You might not need jewelry at all. Also, if you choose a pattern that really moves, go light on the makeup. There's room for one loud piece in your diva ensemble--be it your dress or your eye shadow.

When choosing between a print or a solid, think about how versatile you want the dress to be. A pattern may limit your selection of heels and accessories to wear, but will definitely be the gem of your closet. A solid, on the other hand, will pair well with more accessories and probably be appropriate for more occasions. Also, while a print will grab attention, you can get away with re-wearing a solid more often.

Just a few hints when faced with the choice of a lifetime. Whatever you choose, if it's Tiza, it's right.

How to Take Care of Your Dress

|

A camera can preserve prom memories, but how to preserve that dress? Take these tips from Tiza on how to care for your gown.

Some stains can remain invisible to the naked eye, like beverage spills and body oil. Before storing a dress in the closet, get it dry-cleaned.

Never ever wash your dress at home. Leave it to professionals.

Before taking your dress to the cleaners, scope out a cleaning company that specializes in delicate fabrics and embroidery. Ask about chemicals used and how they will affect the color.

A super heavy gown with lots of embroidery can be folded over a sturdy hanger or kept in a box to avoid stretching out the length. Attach straps to the waistline before hanging a dress to reduce tension and neckline distortion.

Avoid metal clips on hangers that could rust and stain fabric. Steer clear of plastic bags as well, due to chemicals. Ask an expert at the cleaners for proper storage supplies.

Store your dress in a cool, dark place. Avoid artificial and harsh light that could fade the color of your dress.

Choosing the Prom Style for You!

|
We all look forward that special night when we get to show off our million-dollar designer looks.  Unquestionably, the most important part is the gown. Choosing the right gown for that special night can be both fun and frightening.  We gathered some information to help you choose the right dress for any occasion and any body type.

Ugly prom dress.jpg
First of all, we've got to talk comfort. Think about what you will be doing on that special night and choose your dress accordingly... Eating? Drinking? Dancing? Taking photographs? The limbo? All of these things are important to keep in mind when choosing a dress. Who wants to be adjusting, poking and prodding at their gorgeous gown all night long? The wrong dress for the right occasion can leave us uncomfortable and feeling awkward...and it definitely shows!

Here are a few flashback styles to bring a smile Thumbnail image for Ugly prom2.jpg
to your face and a little reminder of a few things to avoid for ANY body type or occasion. Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for UglyPromDress.jpgLuckily, you won't find these styles from this year's top prom designers.

Every woman's body is unique and beautiful in it's own way.  It is a good thing there are so many styles out there to choose from! The hard part is choosing the right style for your individual body type. Starting next week we will tackle several different body types and give some examples of the best looks for each using the top prom designers such as Sherri Hill, Jovani, and more!

Winter Formal dresses

|
A winter formal is like a winter holiday dance around Christmas time or New Year's Eve. Holiday dresses can be as extravagant or as simple as you like. Tiza has large selections of little black dresses that can be a sexy option for a New Year's celebration or long elegant dresses for a formal Christmas dinner party or Valentine's Day party. Jovani has a great selection of dramatic red dresses that will make you look unforgettable. Designs by Sherri Hill are perfect for the party girl ready for a fun-filled night on the town. Our favorite accessories for your evening gown are shoes by Alisha Hill. These designer items have been all over celebrities like JoJo and Mariah Carey. Shoes by Alisha Hill are great for so many occasions: with a beautiful formal gown or a cute pair of jeans.

Sexy Prom Dresses

|
Sexy prom dresses are very in right now. A sexy prom dress like Jovani 11718 or the Beyonce dress isn't just a dress that shows a lot of skin. A true sexy prom dress will show off your figure and flatter your good traits without letting everyone get glimpses of what should remain private. Sexy prom dresses have begun to be greatly influenced by the red carpet run ways of Hollywood. The use of body glue to keep dresses in place shows just how far off you can go with sexy prom dresses. The old adage that less is more really still has a place in high school and college prom dresses.

A sexy prom dress style will be determined by the season. If you are attending a winter ball then you will want sexy prom dress choices that will keep you warmer or be sure to accessorize with a cape or wrap. Many sexy dresses  can be found right here at Tiza.
Sexy prom dresses might be made of less fabric than other prom dresses but the cost will sometimes actually be higher.
