We all look forward that special night when we get to show off our million-dollar designer looks.  Unquestionably, the most important part is the gown. Ugly prom dress.jpg
First of all, we've got to talk comfort. Think about what you will be doing on that special night and choose your dress accordingly... Eating? Drinking? Dancing? Taking photographs? The limbo? All of these things are important to keep in mind when choosing a dress. Who wants to be adjusting, poking and prodding at their gorgeous gown all night long? The wrong dress for the right occasion can leave us uncomfortable and feeling awkward...and it definitely shows!

Here are a few flashback styles to bring a smile Thumbnail image for Ugly prom2.jpg

Every woman's body is unique and beautiful in it's own way.  It is a good thing there are so many styles out there to choose from! Bubble Dresses

|
Bubble dresses are truly the cutest things to rock the runway. Hollywood is all over it, wearing these darling little outfits as chic cocktail dresses. These pieces are also elegant and low-maintenance. You can spice this one up with fancy earrings. Leave your neck bare to highlight the bodice of your dress.
"This is a youthful, clean, classic cut with a little bit of edge," says stylist Mariel Haenn. These dresses look great with a high heel to elongate the body. If you are afraid of making your hips look bulky, consider a slighter poof in a lightweight fabric. To show off your curves, pick a bubble dress with a fitted back.
Keep one thing in mind when picking your bubble dress. Bubble dresses that make girls look pregnant is definitely in style and has been for quite some time. But if you want to look simmer, pick something that actually has a waistline.

Modest Prom Dresses

|
If you belong to Latter Day Saints or just interested in wearing a modest prom dress that doesn't show too much skin, we know that finding the perfect dress can be hard and at some dress shops, near impossible. It's true that most prom dresses can be very revealing with plunging necklines, bare-less backs and hip-high skirt slits. A more modest prom dress is one that covers the shoulder, back, upper arms and from the knee up. In the past, it was almost impossible to find a modest dress in an evening wear shop, but times are different and modest, LDS gowns are popping up all over the place. There are even Web sites that are entirely dedicated to LDS prom and bridal gowns.

If you live in a town that is completely clueless to the idea of modest prom dresses, don't hesitate to try and make your own. Just grab some nice fabric and patterns and put yourself to work. Making your own LDS prom dress can be an adventure and accomplishment in itself

Find the Perfect Dress

|

As much fun a prom dress shopping can be, finding the perfect fit can be more than frustrating. In order to find what flatters your figure, you have to know your figure whether you are heavy bottomed, narrow hipped or big busted.

For those with a small bust, heavy bottom and a wide waist, try to balance things out. You can do this by making shoulders more prominent with full sleeve dresses or cute cap sleeves. A long bodice and full skirts highlight your waste and hide the hip area. To shrink your wide waist, look for a gown with an empire waistline.

If you are one with a full bust and narrow hips, try to soften your shoulder area and highlight your lower body. Dresses with simples sleeves and natural shoulder lines will take away from your top and bring more focus to your bottom half. Full skirts with details such as bows and sashes will bring more attention to your hips. Avoid dresses with an empire waistline, deep necklines or simple straight skirts.

Girls with a square figure, straight bust and hips and very little curves, should use their prom gown to create fictional "curves." Look for full skirts with straight necklines. The more horizontal lines on your dress, the less vertical and narrow your shape will look. For a bigger top, a dress with big shoulders and a full skirt will create that curvy, hourglass shape. The hourglass type, or small waist with full hips and bust, should work to show off her curves, not hide them. Simple designs that are not embellished in decoration will prevent you from looking heavier than you are. Classic gowns with off the shoulder sleeves or strapless dresses really show off your shoulders and neckline. Avoid anything that minimizes the bust or makes your hips look bigger.

Gothic Prom Dresses

|
If you wear gothic all the time do you have to go pink and frilly for prom? No way! Gothic prom dresses can be found at many shops and sites online. You can create your own gothic prom dress or shop around your area for a Gothic prom dress. Gothic prom dresses don't have to be all black either. Blood red and deep purple are great accents that can make a gothic prom dress as will most any other color.

The most basic Gothic prom dresses will contain corset or lace-up tops of some sort or another but you don't have to settle for the same as everyone else. Another common attribute are flutter hems and sleeves. You can go sleeveless, halter, drop shoulder; the style choices are actually very vast for gothic prom dresses.
Accessories are really fun things to play with in adding to the Gothic prom dress theme. You can have earrings and other jewelry that can add some Gothic pizzaz as well as different stockings and shoes. If it is a winter prom a great addition is an awesome Gothic prom dress cape. This is the best finishing touch for gothic prom dresses.

Donate prom dresses to organizations that are set up to provide prom dresses and accessories to girls who otherwise wouldn't have them. Donate prom dresses projects have made it possible for girls all around the country to wear a new, at least new to them, prom dress when they can't afford to buy their own. To find out more about this project or to start one in your area go to princess project or cinderella affair another project started in 2003 in Arizona.

Vintage Prom Dresses

|
Vintage prom dresses are so popular now that you would think they have already been grabbed up. Not so! People are always recycling things from their closets so the pickings are always good. Vintage prom dresses can range from the insanely expensive (think vintage Coco Chanel) or to the very inexpensive (think teal bridesmaid dress). Vintage prom dresses have a style that is all their own and you will want to make sure you find one that matches yours.

Some things to look for when shopping for vintage prom dresses:

•  If it comes from a thrift store ask if they have had it dry cleaned. Some do and some don't and why pay for it again if it is still clean.

•  If your vintage prom dress hasn't been cleaned, and even if it has, look for stains that were missed or couldn't be removed. If a shawl or corsage will cover it and you are fine with that ask for a discount.

•  Some smells will never come out of fabrics so if your vintage prom dress smells of cigarettes or cologne or worse consider the fact that it will always smell like that.

•  Check all the seams and hems for loose threads etc.

•  If small repairs or alterations need to be made allow yourself plenty of time.

•  Vintage prom dresses can be found at yard sales, thrift stores, your mom or grandma's closet etc.

•  Look for vintage brooches, bags and shoes while you are at it. They will look great with vintage prom dresses.

•  Don't be afraid to mix modern accessories with vintage prom dresses. That is one of the coolest looks around.

Prom Dress Flowers

|
Since most of us only go to prom once or twice in your lifetime we don't always keep up to date with prom trends. What has changed over the years? If you didn't attend prom last year; how will you be aware of what is different this year? Yes, it's easy to see how your prom is going to be different from your mother's prom, but it's the little touches that make each year better than the last. So what is something different that you can do this year? How about flowers. Now teens are wearing corsages not only on their wrists or pinned near their dresses, but they are pinning them almost everywhere else too!

This year you might want to try a hip/waist corsage or a floral armband. They now make prom arrangements for your shoulder, head, feet, fingers, and even for your back too! If you are really bold you could even try the new floral tattoo! That's right I said tatoo! It is made of real flowers, so of course it's not permanent. Don't ask me how they do it. You'll have to speak to your florist about that one. My personal favorite is the choker corsage.

I think it's always best to pick a simple engagement (usually only choosing between one and three different flowers). Also try to avoid bundling a large quantity of the flowers you choose. You don't want to look like an entire bouquet is growing out of your body. Another tip is to remember to order (or better yet, have your date order) your corsage several weeks ahead of time. As if prom season alone wouldn't keep florists busy enough; it is also the prime time for weddings and Mother's Day falls then too. Also Girls, since you are reading this to relay to your fella; don't forget that you are in charge of ordering the boutonniere. Both of you should pick ribbons and flowers that coordinate with your dress. Pick up the flowers a day or two before your prom and store them in the refrigerator to keep them fresh.

How to find the best dress

|
How to Find the Best Dress?
Answer: Be Yourself

If you want to look your best on prom night, make sure you buy a dress you can feel comfortable wearing. Your dress should be reflection of you and your personal style. This way you can relax and have a good time instead of worrying about your outfit! Some girls can't stand wearing high heels but do it anyway for prom because it is such a special occasion.

For those who want to feel like a true prom princess , why not try a dress with a train? This addition can make any girl feel like royalty. You could try something in yellow or light pink. These colors are feminine and graceful. Or check out our celebrity dresses for a red carpet look.

If you want to make a statement, there are more and more multi-colored dresses this year. You also might want to try mixing-and-matching separates. This way you can combine two different dresses in one look! Just remember, if you go for a super colorful dress, keep the accessories to a minimum or at least ensure they go well with the dress.

New 2006 Jovani Prom Dresses

|
jovani 2603

Jovani prom dress 2603 is a fun dress for dancing. Pink embroidered lace is sparkled with beads and crystals. The bustier bodice has a sheer midriff with boning and lace accents. The skirt of this sexy little dress is lace to mid thigh, then the lace is cut away to reveal a sheer tulle skirt accented with the same lace. We like the pink combination best, but it is also available in turquoise. The Mariah shoe by Alisha Hill is perfect with this Jovani dress.

Jovani prom dress 5025 is incredible. Silk satin is fashioned into one of the most glamorous, sexy styles we’ve ever seen. The front is a modest sweetheart cut accented with rich gold bead and swarvosky rhinestone trim. The back of this Jovani style has the total wow factor! Tapered straps cross high on the back which is completely open to just below the waist where the gold and swarovsky artwork is repeated. The fit of  this gown is especially good because it was manufactured at one of the Sherri Hill pageant factories.
The color choices are: Black, turquoise, gold, red, emerald, fuchsia, lavender, and  olive green.  We like the gold Alisha Hill shoes with this gown.
