Gowns and Glasses

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Think your spectacles will be a laughing spectacle at prom or your next formal occasion? Think again, doll. Glasses can be a sexy accessory when paired with the right dress. So, don't go blind just yet, take these tips to the store and learn how to work glam into your glasses.

Your glasses already flatter your face. (We hope you only bought a pair that would accentuate your features.) So really, your customized set of eyes can only jazz up your dress décor.

Glasses can be the focal point of an evening ensemble, especially if your extra eyes are flashy or trendy enough. Have a pair of cat-eyes with rhinestones? Think simple and chic when it comes to your dress and your eyes will definitely pop. A little extra makeup and your face will steal the show.

Try matching your dress color with your glasses for a gorgeous package deal--beautiful bifocals included. But do this only if the color of your glasses complements your skin, which it should be if you wear them every day. This technique works best with rich colors, like deep golds, browns, reds and blues.

For a radically distinct look, try conjuring the ultimate contrast. If you wear white glasses, wear a black dress, or the opposite. Sharp and sassy does it.

Remember to think of your glasses as a legit accessory, not part of your face. So, don't overdo jewelry if you plan to ditch the contacts. In fact, our stylists at Tiza recommend limiting jewelry to bracelets and basic stud earrings to avoid the gaudy factor. We're not playing dress-up here, girls. We're getting gorgeous!

So no more nerd alert. This just in: glasses are the hottest accessory of the season. Polish and wear with pride!

Can't justify buying a one-of-a-kind designer dress? Are you constantly buying cheap gowns from department stores that fall apart? Stop emptying your piggy banks on poorly made dresses that will lose all their sequins by the time you step on the stage or dance floor. Here at Tiza, we know why you deserve to splurge on a quality gown that pays in a million magnificent memories.

A well-made gown will last a lifetime. Buying a high-quality dress not only makes you feel like a trillion bucks when you twirl in the mirror, but will last through multiple wears without getting that shabby look. Premium fabric keeps it's shine and shape, especially when carefully pieces together by our top designers.

If you shop right, you can always re-wear. Think sophisticated and single--in color that is. With a classy-cut gown that flatters your figure, you can revamp your evening ensemble by stocking up on cheaper accessories. If you invest in a nice black dress, you can do dangly hot pink rhinestones for prom and sweet pearl studs for your friend's summer wedding. You can have a hundred outfits with one good dress.

A fancy dress isn't just for prom and pageants. Think of your audience (trust me, darling, you have one).  If you're going to a symphony or fancy theatre, the people there will most likely not be the kids from your high school dances. A cocktail or dinner party downtown will be a whole different crowd than at a college friend's wedding. Nobody has to know!

So no more excuses, ladies. Get on the ball so you can get to the ball in a gown worth it's shimmer in gold.

Planning on showing some skin in your dress tonight? While many daring designs can flatter the female figure, there are a few things to consider before plunging that neckline or baring your back.

A dress should accentuate your figure's best features. If you have a lean, muscular back, with strong shoulders, go backless, especially if you're lacking in the chest. This draws attention to your sexy side.

If you have a flat stomach, try a dress with cut outs that pull around your torso. This also draws the eye to the region you're proud of. Show off those abs. You put the crunches in.

For curvy girls with a little more junk in the trunk, if you're feeling bold, go short. Stick with a supportive torso that flatters your chest and pick a length you're comfortable with. Add a pair of stilettos to emphasize your calves.

If you're on the shorter side, think short as well. Remember, a petite frame requires less fabric even for a conservative dress. The smallest slit will make a magnified impression. So, don't go too low with a neckline and watch the slit length. Also, to make you appear taller, avoid torso cut-outs.

For tall girls, a low back that swoops deep to the top of the tailbone creates an elegant, lush flow, especially if the dress sweeps to the ground. Don't cover up a backless dress with hair. Put it up!

When thinking low neckline, make sure you wear accurate bust support. If you're super rail thin, steer clear of low necklines to avoid looking sickly. Try a short, bubble dress with a heart-shaped torso instead.

When to Dress Shop

You just broke up with your boyfriend and downed a gallon of chocolate ice cream. Don't even think about dress shopping with those red puffy eyes and pockets pull of tissues. When it comes to searching for the perfect gown, a girl has to bring her A game to shop.

At Tiza, we make it too easy to shop without getting out of bed. But, it's important to make sure your head's in the right place before you hand over that credit card. We like our decisions rational around here. Use our handy self-assessment to check in with yourself before heading to the dress checkout.

Are you stressed? A frazzled brain makes fuzzy choices. We don't need meltdowns because they're out of your dress size. Plan to shop at a time of day when you know you're least stressed. Are you calm after work? On the weekend? Keep your cool for a catchy purchase.

Trauma or drama? Anything horrible just happen? From bad test grades to family emergencies, a traumatic experience can definitely hinder good gown decisions.

Are you hungry? A grumbling tummy will distract you from focusing on necessary dress details.

Have you slept enough? A tired body gets cranky. A cranky girl cries easily. A crying girl can't see through teary eyes.

Who are you shopping with? If your mom stresses you out, go shopping with a friend whose opinion you trust. Don't shop with your boyfriend. Just don't.

Are you in a time crunch? Try not to cram in shopping time between classes or in a tight schedule. You'll likely look over the perfect dress if you scurry around a mall or frantically scroll through web pages. Plan a whole afternoon devoted to dress shopping.

Choose your dress in your right mind. This could be the most important decision ever.

So, you think you're hot stuff? Well, you are. Tiza wants to show the world how gorgeous you look in our gowns. If you've purchased a dress from Tiza and worn it to prom, for a pageant or any lavish occasion, send us your favorite photos.

Our savvy fashionistas will analyze every detail with trained eyes straight out of The Devil Wears Prada. They will look at overall ensemble and your ability to match a dress to your body type, skin and hair color.

Finalists will have their photo featured right here on our website for the glamor world to gaze at.

Hey, you just might be the next Top Model. We know you belong on a fashion magazine cover, so prove it to the world.

Send your pics to bestdress@tiza.com.

Keep it appropriate. We dress classy chic here.

May the best dress win!

Don't let stress get you in a tizzy one week before prom. We can't have a splotchy complexion! Take a deep breath, and take care of our one-week wonder list. If you've got everything checked off, you're ready for a ball!

1) Start sleeping well now. Try to get eight hours every night. If you can't sleep like a baby, at least be in bed with the lights off or dim. Try reading an especially boring book until you fall asleep. Adequate sleep prevents dark circles under the eyes. No ghosts going to prom this year.

2) If you're going in a group, contact everyone and confirm. Make sure no one's backing out last minute.

3) Keep your dress, shoes and accessories in a safe place, like your closet, so you know where everything is. Avoid panic on prom night.

4) Plan your purse. What will you need? Extra money, lip gloss, charged cell phone, make-up kit, camera...

5) Talk to friends about important issues like limo payments, curfews, driving and drinking. Make sure everyone's on the same page.

6) This week, step up the exercise. Your adrenaline is pumping already, so let loose with an extra mile and crunches.

7) Keep eating healthy, taking vitamins and be sure to drink plenty of water.

8) Be careful. Now's not the time to try back flips in the front yard. Casts aren't cool with corsages.

9) Finally, don't change anything. Under stress, you might be tempted to buy a whole new dress or dye your hair red. Don't. You've made wise choices while sane, so let's keep it that way.
